World Blood Donation Day:LUCKNOW METRO ORGANIZES BLOOD DONATION CAMP

Lucknow.

On the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation Limited in collaboration with King George Medical University organized a blood donation camp at the Vishvavidyala Metro Station today.  Every year on 14 June, countries around the world celebrate World Blood Donor Day to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank blood donors for their voluntary, life-saving gift of blood.

The camp received an overwhelming response from Metro passengers as well as the general public who turned up with great ardor to donate blood. Supporting the initiative, many Metro employees, PAC team and security guards donate blood as well.

The occasion was graced by Dr. Tulika Chandra, Head of Transfusion Medicine Department, KGMU, who emphasized on the importance of blood donation, saying, “There is a misconception that donating blood causes weakness or loss of blood in the donor’s body. But this not true. In fact, those who donate blood are healthier individuals as their body generates fresh blood after donation.” She also stressed that blood donation is not just a charitable cause but it also helps the donor in future emergency needs. When someone donates blood, they get a certificate which acts as a blood receiving card valid for a year. This means that if in case of an emergency, the certificate holder or their family members require blood, they can get it from the blood bank just on the basis of the blood donation certificate.

Dr. Chandra was all praise for LMRC’s noble initiative and said, “Lucknow Metro is presenting a precedent for social responsibility. I felt so touched by LMRC’s initiative to set up a blood donation camp that I felt compelled to personally visit the camp venue and thank the officials today.”

During the camp, the team of doctors collected the blood units with special care in the special mobile van and handed over Certificates to the donors.
